Red Pepper Hot Sauce

Move over store-bought hot sauce, this seven-ingredient Red Pepper Hot Sauce is super quick and easy to make at home. This hot sauce is made with simple ingredients, can be customized to your taste, and offers deliciously bold flavour.

Hot sauce is always a great condiment to have on hand as it’s an easy way to add a little kick and a ton of flavour to meals, without additional fat or sugar. I started making my own hot sauce when I realized how simple and quick it is to pull together. Plus, the flavour and heat can be customized based on your preference.

I like to use Fresno peppers in this hot sauce for their rich red colour and fiery heat, but I always add in some red bell pepper to help mellow out the flavour a bit. I also like to cut away most of the seeds from the Fresno peppers and leave them out of the hot sauce. The pepper seeds are where the bulk of the heat comes from and all that spiciness is a little overwhelming for our tastes.

If you find this hot sauce is too mild or too spicy, increase or reduce the amount of pepper seeds you include in your sauce. You can also play around with the ratio of Fresno peppers to bell peppers to get your ideal flavour with the perfect amount of heat.

If you’re looking for more of a classic hot sauce flavour, you’ll want to use good ol’ white vinegar in this recipe. But if you’re up for a bit of a twist, try swapping it for apple cider vinegar which gives it a nice tang!

This hot sauce is great for adding bold flavour to soups, casseroles, and dips. I also love sautéing shredded chicken in the hot sauce along with some onions and garlic to make a super simple buffalo-style wrap or salad.

Are you a hot, medium, or mild kind of hot sauce fan? What’s your favourite way to enjoy hot sauce?
