Grain-Free Cinnamon Spiced Apple Crumble

This Grain-Free Cinnamon Spiced Apple Crumble is a healthy spin on the classic Fall dessert. Simple to make and perfect for the holidays, this apple crumble recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, and naturally sweetened.

Oh September, I have mixed feelings about you.

Can you blame me for not wanting the warm evenings and summer fruit to go away? I’m not ready to give up my fresh blueberry obsession and I’ll miss the yummy Blueberry Lime and Mango Quinoa Salad. Although, I think I’ll try making it with frozen fruit that has been thawed and see how it compares. At least the blueberries will make it a pretty purple colour, right?

September, I guess you have your perks too. Cooler nights means comfy flannel sheets, slippers, and indulging in a Walnut Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie while sipping on a warm cup of tea. Saying goodbye to the berries, peaches, and coronation grapes also makes room for Brussels sprouts, root veggies, and apples. And soup season officially begins! Although, as many of you know, we enjoy our beloved bone broth even on the hottest days of the year – gut health is important all year round!

Apples are abundant at the farmers’ market these days and there are so many yummy ways to enjoy them: sliced with homemade coconut butter, pureed into an easy homemade apple sauce, or devoured as a delicious, oven-baked crumble.

This Grain-Free Cinnamon Spiced Apple Crumble is a super simple dessert to make, and a true crowd pleaser! Sweet apples get warm and cozy with a nutty crumble topping, and hints of maple and cinnamon make this a perfect dessert for Fall.

The grain-free crumble topping is a mixture of nuts, hemp hearts, and coconut. We like to use antioxidant-rich walnuts and pecans, but you can use any combination of your favourite nuts.

The nutty crumble is naturally sweetened with just 2 tbsp of pure maple syrup. Melted coconut oil, Ceylon cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt complete the crunchy topping, which is then spooned over the chopped apples.

Basically like a big dessert hug, this Grain-free Cinnamon Spiced Apple crumble is incredible enjoyed warm, right out the oven.

But, this recipe is also perfect for meal prep and all the Fall holidays and festivities. You can make this dessert the day before and bake it right before dinner, or you can prepare it well in advance of Thanksgiving and Christmas, because it freezes beautifully!

This Grain-Free Cinnamon Spiced Apple Crumble will most definitely be on our Thanksgiving menu in a few weeks. It’s deliciously comforting and a healthy alternative to some of the heavily-sweetened holiday classics.

What’s your favourite Fall dessert?
